“From Page to The Stage”
As an actress, I’ve spent the past ten years performing on various stages.
Black box theaters, dinner theaters, cabaret, living rooms, film and tv sets, and proscenium stages.
Every time I’d set foot on the stage, I’d feel nervous with excitement and anticipation. The lights would
come up, the audience would be waiting, and I would get ready to go on. Each time I had to focus on
the same skills and techniques needed for any performance or presentation.
*Presence
*Energy
*Projection and diction
*Focus
*Connection with the words
*Interaction with the audience
Presence and Energy
Acting training stresses the importance of presence and energy. What do you notice about your favorite
presidents, talk show hosts, and movie stars? They are alive. There is energy in the body and speech,
and we want to watch and listen to them. They are engaging and dynamic on their various stages.
The truth is, we all want to work with charismatic people, and those who make us feel happy about being alive.
Actors train every day to connect. Eye contact, listening, and sharing are crucial elements to any great
piece of theater. As an audience member we want to connect, feel, and empathize with actors we see
on the stage. Essentially, we want to see ourselves through their performances. Their stories are our stories.
The immediacy and intimacy of the theater is unique in that we see humans living life on stage as a mirror
for our own lives. Have you been to a play, and when it’s over you turn to the person next to you to
discuss the show? It’s a bonding experience and a communal one.
Speeches are often the same way, if their stories and messages touch us.
Share and present your own story. Take it from the page to the stage!
We’ll work with you to create a dynamic presentation. Everyone has a story to share.
